Ever since Rev James Andersen, who re-wrote the Grand Lodge of England's constitutions in 1738, there has been a record of Presbyterian ministers as active Freemasons.
To provide just a few examples of Presbyterian Ministers who were keen Freemasons in Victoria.
- Rev Bill Gilmore, once interim moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria told me that he was a Freemason and that he was happy that I am a Freemason. He went on to say that there were many Presbyterians who did not understand Freemasonry and chose to opose it out of ignorance.
- Rev Ivory, former minister of Cheltenham Presbyterian Church was a Freemason.
- Rev Jack Pilgrim, former minister of Scots' Church Melbourne was a Freemason.
- Rev Chris Goy, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church wrote and presented many papers on Freemasonry.
- Rev Fred Sadler
- and on and on we could go ...
And elsewhere there are plenty of others. For example, my Sponsor into Freemasonry recently advised me that WBro Lockie Royal, who was the retired minister of Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph, Ontario, Canada was the Worshipful Master of Guelph Lodge in the temple building which abutted the Presbyterian Church. It didn't bother anybody and as a matter of fact, when he was installed, it was in the local newspaper and posted on the notice board of the church.
Furthermore, there are plenty of clergymen who have been Freemasons.
There is no way that these respected Ministers of Religion would be involved in anything sinful. The problem stems from the ingorance within the current Presbyterian clergy in Victoria; they have confused education with brainwashing. Why else has recognition been terminated by every other Presbyterian Assembly in the world.
