This tremendous tragedy truly cannot be described by words. In many years to come it will be hard to tell my children and grandchildren about this event. I will never properly be able to describe all the men and women crying two weeks ago. Walking through the high school halls was like walking through a funeral. Everyone seemed to know someone who was working in one of the towering infernos. It was hard to say to crying peers, “Don’t worry, everything will be OK.” We all had this gut feeling that this would be a historic tragedy in which thousands were lost. The horrendous happenings impacted Americans quickly and Americans adamantly decided to respond ten times as quickly.
We will never know the exact amount of people that were lost. We will never be able to recompensate to the families who have lost their loved ones. Even though thousands were lost, the combination of the New York City Fire Department, New York City Police Department, and the dedication of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and President Bush couldn’t be more willing to help Americans back on their feet. With the men and women of the NYPD and FDNY, the two departments heroically risked there own lives and they saved many other lives during their rescues. Its sad to say that a tragedy of this magnitude has affected this country in a way that we, as Americans, started to think clearly about what is really important in life.
President Bush has been right there for two weeks and Mayor Giuliani is the man of the decade right now. Bin Laden and his foolish group of Taliban troops truthfully do not know what they have got themselves into. We are going to move on and be stronger than ever. New York City will always remain the greatest city in the world and America will always be the greatest country in the universe.
