When the planes hit the buildings I really didn’t seem too concerned with what was happening because I knew none of my family was involved. Soon after the first building collapsed, my thoughts began to change and I began to realize that this means war. Before the tragedy even occurred on that day I had come to school all excited because we were scheduled to play a night game against one of our major rivals. During the lunch period, that day I was walking around and I saw half the school in tears. That is what really changed my attitude because I didn’t think that a small town like mine could be so directly affected by such a tragedy.
When I came home from school I was watching TV for hours to see the actual footage. I tried to maintain my composure throughout the entire day and almost every time that I wanted to turn the TV off and stop watching, something stopped me.
During the day, my brother tried to call me and make sure that everything was okay, but he couldn’t get through and he got really scared because he thought that my mom was supposed to fly out to Egypt that day. I’m still shocked that something like this would happen to the United States of America and after hearing President Bush I realized that the country is safe and that we should not worry about anything
. I remember watching on TV one of the smaller towers collapse. The following weekend I drove into Jersey City and I could see the huge pile of dust and smoke where the twin towers once stood. I also remember driving by and smelling rotten flesh.
After watching the news and seeing the disaster, I began to think that war was not an option and then I began to feel more concerned about my brother who is 19 and who may be sent overseas to fight. I hope that this country can solve this problem quickly and that they won’t need to take people that don’t want to go. After watching the news about a month later, close to 6,000 people are still missing and the ground zero area still looks like a war zone.
The country as a whole was shaken
It’s sad to say that we are going to war
Just think of the people who don’t have life anymore
