Board of Education Staff and
ALT Population

Seven years ago, there were only 5 ALTs and 2 Japanese English Teacher Consultants (ETCs) working with the JET Programme. Now there are 70 ALTs, 2 Advisors and other Japanese support staff. To improve the quality of international education in Sendai, the Mayor introduced a program called the Hello World Plan (HWP). This plan enables the city to reach its goal of having one native speaker in every Sendai city school. The JET Programme provides the city with 60 ALTs and Sendai hires 10 ALTs privately.
