On the Beach
A'Seifah Beach, southeast of Muscat

seashell Every once in a while, they let us out. This time it was for an Astronomy Club trip to see the galaxies of Leo and Virgo. Although there are no galaxy pictures here (our Fuji MX-1700 digital is not capable of taking such photos), it was plenty exciting, as you can see below. If you're wondering about the heat, it's still relatively cool here (about 98F in the day), especially with our friend Phil's awning and the ocean nearby, and the nights are great; warm with a light breeze.

First thing we did was to get stuck, axle-deep in soft sand...

Really Stuck to the Axle! Shovelling Sand

Which means lots of digging. Fortunately we had our folding shovel. Marc shows how it's done, while Karen got the tent set up on the beach.

And George, sorry that we've just been introduced, takes pity on us:

Sand Sand Sand

We weren't having much luck, though, so some other Astronomy Club members offered to winch us out.

Winching, not wenching.

Paul & George help; Marc drives. Thanks, Bob & Paul, and the remote control Winch!

Once we were out, the car was safely parked and we'd had cool drinks, it was time to enjoy the scenery.

Our car and the mountains!

seashell The next day, our friend Monet stopped by and took this picture of Marc and Karen. We'd been snorkelling that morning before breakfast and seen lots of pretty fish.

Believe it or not, we do have friends. Here are some of them...

Would you let THIS man be your architect?

Above: "Aaah... there you aaaahre!" (Inside joke, sorry.)

And here, Sarah chills out doing cross-stitch while her husband George dreams of cooler climes—like Everest...
