31 August - 27 September 1998
No updates due to webmaster's
exams.
24 - 30 August 1998
Alpha Course: "Who is the Holy
Spirit?"
17 - 23 August 1998
This week's Alpha Course
topic: "Why and How do I Pray?"
The "Training
Timothians" course session is on Monday, 17 August 1998.
10 -16 August 1998
This week's Alpha Course
topic: "Why and How Should I Read the Bible?"
I'd also like to draw your
attention to the Small Group Newsletter that the church intends to produce for Small Group
Sunday on the 27th September. Think about how being in a small group has helped you and
why you think being in a small group is important. Write those precious thoughts down and email them or pass them to Jiyin on Thursday.
3 - 9 August 1998
It's the first Thursday of
the month again. And you know what that means. It's time to share and pray.
This Thursday, 6th August
1998, the church wants to show us (along with all the other small groups which meet in
church on Thursdays) a video on being a Timothian for BC: The True Story. They'll be
screening the video at the Level 3 Hall at 7.45 pm (please don't be
late). It's going to take less than half an hour. Then, we carry on with our prayer
meeting at the Music Room.
27 July - 2 August 1998
This week, we were supposed to be doing
the topic, "Why and How Should I Read the Bible?" from the Alpha Course.
However, several of you have said in advance that you won't be able to make it this
Thursday. Elaine, Ivy and Raymond, if you're reading this, do drop an email or call me if
you can't make it (call me if you can too). We may meet for dinner instead, talk about
other stuff and pray together. What do you say? - Bren
20 - 26 July 1998
The question we deal with
this week in the Alpha Course is "How Can I Be Sure Of My Faith?".
"After reading this
chapter, I realised that I was searching for the answer to this question deep down in my
heart as well. Sometimes, we just need more evidence to convince us. And as I thought
about the things mentioned in the book, it brought back memories of various points in my
life. Oh, how I have changed since Jesus came into my life. And how wonderful is His
promise that He is with us always, to the very end of the age." - Bren
13 - 19 July 1998
The Alpha Course
continues with "Why Did Jesus Die?". See you all this Thursday in the Music
Room.
6 - 12 July 1998
We're looking at some
exciting times ahead. This week we start on the Alpha Course. OK I know not all of you
have the book yet...but that's because you weren't around last week to pick it up (shame
on you...after all the trouble we went to, to get it on time for Thursday last week).
Chapter 1 reads: "Who is Jesus?"
Is Christianity boring,
untrue and irrelevant? Not at all you say? Well, come down on Thursday and let's review
and rediscover what we believe.
29 June - 5 July 1998
This Thursday is our
monthly sharing and prayer meeting.
22 - 28 June 1998
We'll complete our study
of Daniel with Lesson 12: Vision of the Conflicts of Kings.
15 - 21 June 1998
In this Thursday's bible
study meeting, we'll be discussing the readings that Jiyin assigned last week.
ANNOUNCING....the
wedding of Chris Hogg & Suzette Teo. Our small group's first wedding! The church
ceremony will be held on Saturday 20th June 1998 at Covenant Community Methodist Church.
Congratulations to the wonderful couple. Drop them a congratulatory note on the message
board anytime or see some pre-wedding snap shots of them.
We're trying to get them to hand over some of those studio photos (they're great!) so we
can put them up here too. Maybe this Thursday! Check back then.
8 - 14 June 1998
Chris &
Suzette are getting married on Saturday, 20th June! And in celebration, we're
having a bash at Jiyin's place this Wednesday. Whoopee! See you there.
This Thursday, Chris TTH
will be going through the handout he gave us last week on The Prophetic Foundation. It's
an overview of the history of Israel and the prophetic themes through the Old and New
Testaments. Great stuff. He's also going to set the mood with music too: a total immersion
lesson! Be there.
1 - 7 June 1998
Come this Thursday for our monthly
sharing and prayer session.
25 - 31 May 1998
We won't be doing Lesson
12 after all. Chris Tan TH can't make it and will be giving us a run down of the
surrounding history during the next bible study. Don't know exactly how many weeks that'll
take (TMSW will keep you informed). Then we'll be starting the Alpha course.
See you this Thursday.
Love you all. And a big welcome to Gavin!! -Bren
18 - 24 May 1998
Come to basement rooms 3 & 4
for this week's combined small group meeting with other groups from the South Zone.
There will be no meeting in the music room.
11 -17 May 1998
We will be continuing with
the book of Daniel this week, Lesson 11: Visions of the Two Beasts and Seventy Weeks.
Photos
taken during this Monday's South Zone Discovery Tour are out now! For those of you
wondering what this was all about, there'll be a short feature in the Past Happenings
section by this weekend. We had fun, in spite of having to get up at 6am in the morning on
a public holiday! - Bren
4 - 10 May 1998
This Thursday's meeting is our sharing
and prayer session. Come especially if you're tired and worn out from the week. Don't
forget to call your buddy. Find out what your buddy is up to and whether he or she will be
able to make it this Thursday. - Bren

27 April - 3 May 1998
It's back to the book of
Daniel this week. Lesson 10: Manifestations of Israel's God to Gentile Nations. Do read
Daniel Chap. 3-6 in preparation.
Now, I know it seems like
there've been a lot of disruptions in our bible study, but they're something we'll have to
accept with patience and not be discouraged. With some heavy work commitments for some and
exams for the few of us, not everyone is available every week. That may make the studies
difficult to catch up with if you've missed a couple of weeks. But we are using Jensen's
"self-study guide", so do read as you find the motivation in your own time. As
for fellowship and accountability, find out what your buddy is up to over the week and
we'll all still be able to stay close as a group in spite of tight schedules and the
pressures of life. Remember that your buddy needs you.
See you this Thursday
everyone. - Bren
20 - 26 April 1998
We will be attending the
Basic Appreciation Course (3rd & final session) conducted by the Ministry for the
Hearing Impaired this Thursday. As quite a number of us in the group have expressed
interest in attending this sign language course, the study of Daniel will be held over
till next week.
Do think about joining the
South Zone Discovery Tour happening on 11th May. Entry forms
have to be handed in pronto to the organisers. It's going to be fun! Please email me
with your interest. -Bren
30 March - 19 April 1998
Over these few weeks, the group has been sort
of scattered, with everyone busy with their work (I mean real busy). Some if us attended
the first 2 sessions of the MHI's Basic Appreciation Course in Sign Language.
23 - 29 March 1998
No update. Sorry. Exams!!
16 - 22 March 1998
Sorry about the wrong info
you may have read in the last update. We didn't have bible study this week. Instead, there
was a combined session with More Mustard Seeds, with sharing by Adrian from Romans.
You may have read last
week's update saying that we may be changing to the Lifebuilder Series. Well we couldn't
get our hands on copies, so we've decided to stick with the self-study guide we're using
now. - Bren
9 - 15 March 1998
Last week he had our inaugural session committed to
sharing and prayer. Once a month, the first Thursday of every month, will be put aside for
this purpose. This is important in providing a time for each of us to share our lives with
one another and to pray for each of our needs and for the group.
This Thursday, we may be switching books to the
Lifebuilder Bible Study Series: Daniel, after discussing last week the difficulties we
were facing with the Self-Study Guide we were using. Jiyin will try to get copies by this
Thursday, 12th March. Hang in there, we'll see how things work out. - Bren
2 - 8 March 1998
This Thursday is a special meeting. It's
going to be a time of sharing and prayer. No bible study this week. See you there.
23 February - 1 March 1998
Last Thursday, we did a survey of the book of Daniel.
At the start, it seemed like a lot to digest. The visions that Daniel had, told from
chapters 7 through 12, were a little confusing. However, I am comforted that we will be
studying the visions in greater detail in later lessons and this lesson is, after all, a
survey! With that in mind, I feel that parts of the book have become more familiar to me.
I hope this is true for you as well. Be encouraged, then, and hopefully, Chris Tan TH will
be able to help us this week. Don't forget, we were supposed to have some homework....comparing
Nebuchadnezzar dream of Chapter 2 with Daniel's vision of Chapter 7.
This week we start on Lesson 8: Daniel and His Three
Companions. Do read the lesson ahead of time and come prepared. There's a copy of the
Directions for the Sixth Quadrennium 1997-2000 and the message by Rev Dr Isaac Lim for
those of you who haven't got one yet.
Thanks for the comments in the guestbook Jiyin. And
Chris TYW, I am expecting you to come up with something for the Features page. To all... a
blessed week. And remember to keep praying! - Bren
16-22 February 1998
Last Thursday was a good time of looking inward at
ourselves as a group, and recommitting ourselves and the group to seek God's will through
prayer. That's the short of it, but a lot more practical ideas and valuable opinions were
contributed, that will help us grow as a group. Personally, I feel inspired and excited
about the future. Thank you all for your sharing. I hope these pages will serve as a
channel for your thoughts and ideas through the week. For this purpose, I have decided to
set up a guestbook, acting as a real bulletin board for you to post messages. I'm sorry if
not all of you have access to the internet all the time, and I guess you'll have to make
do, somehow (go to a cafe?). For those of you that do, I hope these pages will become
regular reading for you (ambitious huh?).
Late breaking news, changes to
schedules, last minute "makan" arrangements etc. will be posted up here. I'm
starting to get the hang of regular updates. It's easier once the framework is up!
In case you've forgotten, we're moving on to Lesson 7:
Survey of the Book of Daniel this
week. There's a copy of the Directions for the Sixth Quadrennium 1997-2000 and the message
by Rev Dr Isaac Lim for those of you who didn't get one on Thursday. - Bren
