Adam Holden Nance
Adam is one of those guys who looks like he's sleeping some times, but what he is always doing is watching and filing information. He does well in school because pays attention, but he does well in life because he understands just how much fun life is when you're willing to laugh at yourself. With humor there are very few hardships which can't be overcome.
On the day Adam was born, I wrote in my journal:
4-5-83
At 8:03 A.M. Adam Holden Nance was pulled out into the world by Dr. Ellis and Dr. Long. I thought some of the magic of birth might be gone after one child, but each birth is something special. When Ian was born, I was rushed out of the way while Dalene went in for the C section. With Adam I was allowed in the operating room. I saw that little, blue boy being pulled into the world and I cried. The tears continued when I held Adam in my arms and rocked him in the nursery. Although Adam slept most of the time, he would wake up occassionally and look up with those dull blue eyes which tried desperately to gather in all the sights around them. His tiny hands would graps my fingers and his crying would stop whenever I'd stroke his cheek. I couldn't believe that I had such a calm boy. He took to his momma's milk right away and after a belly full, he fell asleep on her breasts.
I took Ian to see Adam and Momma for a few minutes, and Adam slept through his big brother's visit. I hope that Ian doesn't think Adam is just a lump under the blanket.
Adam is much more than a lump under a blanket. He's a fine boy who is finding the world using his own way, the only way any of us can find anything worthwhile. Soon he will graduate from California State University at Fresno with a degree in Mathematics. Where he goes next, I don't know, but I do know wherever he goes he will be very successful, for he has as big a heart as he does intelligence. With a combination like that, he can't go wrong.
