EXAMINE ME
Thoughts on psalm 26 vs 2

“Examine me, O Lord and prove me;
Try my reins and my heart.”
What did David mean this to be?
What was to be his part?
How many times I have read this I do not know,
Before just pretty words I read,
But for the first time a new meaning did show,
And as I looked I was spiritually fed.
There were no footnotes on the word reins
So searching I found the meaning,
Now sometimes researching pains,
For then my weak mind was reeling.
Rein a simple word that did not seem to fit in
Hit me like a ton of bricks,
Set my mind thinking, set me in a spin,
Made me realize how Satan uses his tricks
To skim over things that need thought,
How many of us are always in control and cool,
Smother evil thoughts, respond when taught,
Repress anger so never act like a silly fool?
Think what the reins on horses do,
They lead him along the right way,
Will we do that? So when we are through
And the Lord examines me will say,
“I proved you, I was your strength and stay.”
