THE SACRAMENT
When I partake of the precious sacrament
Do I remember my Saviours cruel torment?
Do I remember His suffering beyond compare?
Or does my mind start to wander off somewhere?
It should not be hard to stop and think of Him,
Go over the words of a favourite sacrament hymn,
Think of Him hanging in shame on Calvarys hill,
Suffering for you and me, doing His farthers will.
Help me Lord, as I partake of the broken bread,
Remember the crown of thorns around Thy head,
Think of those eyes still shining with pure love,
Even begged for their forgiveness to God above.
As I take the water, help my heart to be pure,
May my every action show that it is Him I adore,
Help this sweet simple symbol wash away my sin,
As my weeping heart begs forgiveness from within.
I need the gift of the great sacrament very often,
It helps me remember Him, this simple token,
The suffering and a kind Father full of pure love,
For through the sacrament we can prepare for above.
