FLICKERING CANDLE
As I watch a candle flicker as a draft
blows its way,
I stopped to wonder if my little light
would stay
Firm and bright as I face the winds
of life,
When they blow hard and cruel bringing
with them strive.
The candle flickered but struggled to
stay alight,
In fact as I watched it I noticed it burned
more bright.
Was this little candle teaching me a lesson
I had to learn?
As the draft increased it struggled harder, it
seemed to yearn
To stay lit, shine its best, but the blowing
was strong,
Like evil temptations trying hard to make
us do wrong.
I placed a glass chimney around my candle,
Now see it glow,
Protected from the draft it burns steady and
no flicker show,
Firm and strong it burns, now safe from the
peril that came,
So we should protect ourselves from evil winds,
be free from shame.
We need to stay within the shelter of His church,
stay in the fold
When Satan lashes out at us with his temptations
so bold,
But when the winds of tribulation come let
us shine bright,
Stand against the great storms of life, show
our gospel light.
