I WISH I COULD REMEMBER
I wish I could remember that day they called my name,
My turn on earth was coming a loving voice did proclaim,
Oh, how long I had waited for that special day of mine,
To claim a body of my own, everything would turn out fine.
I am sure I promised with fervor, I would never go astray,
I would find the truth and follow it back home all the way,
Satan could not get at me, I would stay true and strong,
I’m sure I promised nothing would lead me to do wrong.
I am sure I cried for joy when they wished me farewell,
Could I hear myself cry, as I came on earth to dwell?
Were tears shed at my parting from that sacred place?
How long did they whisper to me as His earth I did grace?
I am sure I made a promise, one I must keep through my days
I have found the truth, I’ll try to follow all the correct ways,
Sometimes the veil is thin and a voice of encouragement I hear,
Feel a loving pat on the shoulder and it fills me with good cheer.
Listening to instruction sent from heaven to guide us home,
Is not easy to follow, but from the path we may want to roam,
I am sure I made a promise to always listen and obey,
So we’ll plan to serve a mission if health is not in the way.
We have been given so much through the gospel all our days,
Surely this way we can give a little back, do as God says,
That promise I do not remember but I will try to never break,
And so return to report on the morning I do not awake.
