VULTURES OF THE MIND

There are many vultures that can peck at our mind,
Making it quite hard for joy and happiness to find.
Lurking there to ravage when we are feeling down,
Taking away a happy thought, making us frown.

The vulture of self pity can spoil the brightest day,
With its self centered, thoughtless, selfish way,
It can dull the brightest mind and break a heart,
Even from this wonderful life wanting to depart.

Then the vulture of anger may seep and find a way
To tear and rend apart all around in what we do and say,
We become another person, one who wants to hate,
Causing strange illnesses, what will be our fate?

But the vulture of despair can kill while you yet live,
Turns a generous soul to someone who cannot give,
Waiting to grasp when some difficulties may arise,
Don’t let the greedy vulture win his great prize.

If we feel a vulture lurking within our mind,
Send it far away, and a soaring eagle find,
Fly high and seek for beauty to drive away the pain,
Destroy the lurking vulture so you may live again.
