TIRED NOT SLEEPY
Sometimes you are worn out and weary
But somehow you are not at all the sleepy,
The brain all active and whizzing around,
But your body almost dead on the ground.
You try and lie down so the body may rest,
Thats when the mind seems to be at its best.
A hundred ideas wander around in your head.
As you do your best not the move about in bed.
Why bother trying until the mind settles down?
They say it helps to think of a shade of brown,
But it is more beneficial to write a poem instead,
Let your loved one rest in peace, warm in bed.
I hope this in the only poem in my brain tonight,
I want to sleep now away from the bright light,
Ill try and turn away the one about flowers,
Or birds singing sweetly in green leafy bowers.
Or the one about a lovely grand ship lost at sea,
Of these thoughts I must try to set my mind free,
So slumber may come, linger through the night,
So be awakened by the worlds morning light.
That reminds me of more poems stored away,
But for tonight please help them safely stay
Tucked up all cosy until tomorrow morning,
And get work done before they come calling.
