AWAKENING GARDENS
All the snow has gone, ‘cept the patch by the compost heap,
Raked is all the dead grass and weeds, buds do now peep
In tiny huddled clusters showing a nice bright new green,
Soon there will be pretty crocus and daffodil to be seen.

Are those new buds on the branches of the old beech tree?
And did I really hear the busy buzzing of the bumble bee?
Oh my, the rhubarb made it through the long winter’s cold,
Can’t wait for it to grow and those large leaves to unfold.

I can smell the mint and sage of the evening warm breeze,
They also made it through the very long winter’s freeze.
The bushes beneath the window are showing signs of life,
A garden can surly help release your worry and your strife.

Soon the grass will grow and need to be cut and trimmed,
Everything will grow so quickly for the sun is never dimmed
From the very early morning until so very late at night,
That all thing grow with all their strength and might.

The birds are building nests in trees that are all around,
Their early morning chorus is such a pleasing sound,
Soon the air will be filled with the smell of flowers that grow,
And we will remember just how much we missed them all so.
