DRIFTING PAST
Drifting past my window like multicoloured rain
Fell the leaves of autumn, fall is with us again,
Kindly sending sweet summer away with beauty
So fair for everyone who wishes to freely see.

Look how the wind tosses those leaves about,
They seem to be having fun without a doubt,
See how the colours blend with the blue sky,
See how many migrating birds far away fly.

The granaries are full, food safely gathered home,
The hibernating creatures will soon cease to roam,
The fruit in all it’s freshness is now scarce on the trees,
Just sturdy apples and pears hang there before the freeze.

Look as the wind blows stronger, the leaves fall faster still,
And this morning there was a hint of frost on my windowsill,
The large stately maple near my home is as red as can be,
Standing next to a dark green pine a lovely sight to see.

Soon the multicoloured rain that falls will turn to white snow,
And earth will be put to sleep, her plants no longer grow,
But while these pretty leaves fall down like life giving rain
I’ll put away the thought of winter and her long cold reign.
