SOFTLY
Softly, slowly the night comes down,
Bathing the earth in an ethereal crown
Of moonlight, guiding travellers home,
Then to gently rest after they did roam.
See how softly the stars glow at night,
Giving us that gentler, more restful light
After the garish rays of the warming sun,
Wholl soon appear with a new day begun.
Softly the nights breeze whispers sleep
As off to rest we wearily at last do creep,
And hope that dreams softly fill our mind,
Leaving all the worldly problems behind.
Softly, come night, softly, come sleep to me,
Help to gently rest and wake much better be
To face the fair bright light of another day
And work hard until it softly fades away.
