GIFTS THAT NEED DEVELOPING
Goodness is not a gift that is freely given
No magic potion come down from heaven,
It is earned by deeds and actions of everyday
By one who shows others the better way.

Virtue is another gift that is not at all free,
Does not come without thinking, like agency,
Being a virtuous person is deciding to do good,
Always striving hard to do the things they should.

Mercy too, comes from truly understanding,
It is not just there without any deep caring,
A quality that’s developed in a loving heart
By someone who is willing to do their part.

Kindness is not all of a sudden there, but grows
By trying to act kindly with a love that shows
In every action, by every deed and word said,
It seems that with kindness true joy is spread.

Honesty comes not with some proud birthright,
But is taught and practised, choosing the right,
Working hard to be able to be called integrity,
Never cheat or never steal or act with cruelty.

Many other noble gifts are earned not just given,
These are the gifts that light the pathway to heaven,
Develop them, then show others the better way
And you will always be able to keep Satan at bay.
