SIT BY MY KNEE

Come children and sit by my knee and listen
Let me teach you all I know of life,
I can tell you of when I was young,
Of the games we used to play,
I'll tell you of the hard times
And when we were short of food.
I'll tell you of my adventures
Spent in the shelters cold and damp,
When the enemy tried to destroy us
But knowing that right would win.
But you may not want to really listen
And learn from those who are older and wise,
You may prefer the television with it's stories
That are both good and bad. But when the time
Comes that we are no longer here my dears,
Think of the things you may have learned
The stories you may have heard, if you had
Found the time to sit and listen round
Your grandparents knees, getting to know them
Really well, and learned of the different years.
