COMING HOME

Listen! There in the hall, a foot fall firm,
The scraping of a chair on the floor
As shoes are removed with care.
A friendly voice calls “I’m home.”

Removed with the shoes, the daily care
That can overwhelm and burden all,
For coming home is a special haven,
If within the walls true love is there.

Listen! There is another, one more home,
The rattle of hanger as a coat is hung
And they hurry into the warmth,
Not really wanting further to roam.

It’s wonderful hearing loved ones come in,
Home at the end of a hectic or hard day.
Home to good food and a loving heart,
A place full of harmony and free from sin.

I pray that our home will listen real well
For those returning, where ever they roam,
And there’ll always be a warm welcome
In a place were God would wish to dwell.
