        PATIENT RUTH
Our little daughter who returned too soon above,
Was an example of understanding, patience and love,
Blue grey eyes shone with a depth quite unknown,
We knew from the beginning she was only on loan.

She had a cute turned up nose and light brown curls,
And loved me to comb them and make with in twirls
Until her whole head was covered and looked so sweet,
And she would smile her sad smile at all she did meet.

She had two velvet dresses one deep blue the other red,
She would like to look in the mirror and nod her head,
She saw her pretty reflection when she was dressed,
She’d say “I’s pretty,” as close to me she was pressed.

Often she was in pain, and all she would do was sigh,
She might say, “Ruthie hurts” with a tear in her eye,
We used to leave the Christmas lights long on the tree
For they gave her so much joy, her face so sweet to see.

Just before she was four, the Lord took her pain away,
But left in all our hearts a void right to this very day,
But we know we will be together, see our child again
And see that precious face free from hurt and pain.
