BEAUTY OF A GARDEN
The fragrance came on the evening breeze so sweet,
From a garden ablaze with colour, the eye to greet,
The taller flowers placed along the old garden wall.
Hollyhocks pretty and sunflowers towering over all.
The eye sweeps forward to a colourful bright array,
One of the loveliest places Ive been for many a day,
From perfect wax-like dahlias and carnations too,
To wispy flowers and ferns, and varieties quite new.
Earlier there was a bed of lupins waving like a sea
Of many different colours as graceful as could be,
Surrounded by the first of the rose buds, simple beauty
Underneath a flowering cherry blossom shading tree.
Now the roses are in full bloom, the perfume everywhere,
Mingled with lavender that was lovingly planted there,
To add to the beauty of this sweet garden of pure delight,
An army of butterflies in turn on each flower did alight.
Usually every place you go, you find a lovely garden there,
Where many hours of work has been spent, tended with care,
To give pleasure and joy to everyone who slowly passes by,
A thing of great beauty to stay with you until after you die.
