CHILDHOOD DREAMS

When I was young I had many dreams
What a long time ago that all seems,
Dreams that I thought could never come true
They were far fetched for the likes of me and you.

As I child I wanted to climb the Rocky Mountains,
Walk through ancient forests, drink at clear fountains,
Walk side by side with the wolf and shy deer,
Feel like part of nature, live with it very near.
I wanted lots of children, a happy family,
I would not have to work, have lots of money,
I wanted to sing in large choirs, make the rafters ring,
And to others in many ways joy and happiness bring.

I looked back the other day at my childhood dreams,
Most of them have come true, or so it seems,
For I’ve climbed a Rocky mountain, close to nature been,
Have a happy family, wandered through forests of green.
I have walked close to many creatures great and small,
Tried to help my fellow men when they did call.
I have sung in choirs till sweet joy filled my heart
Just one thing, I always had to work, do my part.

Then I thought. I have been rich without money
I have wealth untold in our ever growing family,
I have so many treasures memories gathered together,
My many childhood dreams will keep me joyful forever.
