1. A DAY IN THE CITY

It is good to go to the city, just for fun,
Not to have certain jobs to be done,
Just to go walking along hand in hand
And people watch, listen to a band.

All we needed was some rare cheese,
Then the rest of the time take our ease.
Everyone else seemed to be in a hurry
Some had looks of trouble and worry.

We strolled along looking at this and that,
Looked in stores, tried on a silly shaped hat,
Found a perfect gift we had been looking for
Threw a few coins to a man in a drafty door,

Sat at crowed tables to eat a fun meal,
A relaxing day, how good we did feel,
When we went outside the sky was blue
Although the wind was keen and cold too.

I felt sorry for the folks rushing so fast,
Just as we had done in the near past,
For this and the other had to be done,
A definite purpose to the city come.

But this day was different, we just came
With very little reason, very little aim.
Do it sometime just for a little fun,
Have a slow paced day, as we have done.
