] CHRISTMAS MORNING TOAST
As I made the toast this morning and while waiting
I thought back to childhood with much contemplating.
We had no toaster that popped up cooked just right,
And many happy memories came flooding into sight.
On Christmas morning if not awake so see each gift,
The smell of the cooking toast gave you a kind of lift
That lasted through the whole day and down stair came,
There was everyone making toast by the fires flame.
They made room for me, gave me the longest toasting fork,
Even before any presents were opened and all did talk,
The heat from the fire was wonderful on those cold days,
And the toast with the fired bacon always got much praise.
I still enjoy a round of toast but it is not quite the same
When cooked in a pop up toaster not an open flame,
Especially when the coals are red and its cooked fast
And the scent of that cooking toast many hours does last.
