SPRING HAS COME AT LAST
It is way after lunch time and were just getting in the car
Yet we have this morning wandered both near and far,
The shining sun seems to have made our joints more limber
Not like in the cold weather when they creak like old timber.
Spring is in the air and there are signs of life everywhere
The birds are singing loudly no longer seem to have a care,
The water glistens in the sun the ice has melted all away,
Thats why were feeling good, better weather is here to stay.
I saw a dandelion growing by the postoffice warm wall,
I hope that others saw it as it stood there growing quite tall,
Then we watched a robin fluff his feathers in the warm sun
Oh yes, for sure dear spring has well and truly begun.
Window open, a snack out on the once snow covered patio,
Gaze all around and you see on lines clean washing blow,
Curtains and comforters, bedspreads and quilts as well
All part of spring cleaning, springs come and cant you tell.
The best sign of all that comes to me is the return of the loon,
The plaintive call echos, and on the lake, silhouetted by the moon,
The pintail came earlier but did not dare steal that good place
Where the loons nest, it is always such a safe well guarded space.
Welcome dearest spring with each ray of sun we are now blest
We have come through harsh winter and have passed the test,
The cold battle is over for now there is spring in the clean air,
And we can walk quite far but always pass new flowers with care.
