THIS TIME LAST YEAR
This time last year we were both sick as could be,
Both been at deaths door and improving too slowly,
I look back and realize that to be alive is a great prize
And we are grateful for everyday we are able to arise.
Little by little sweet energy did return, albeit too slow,
Now except in really bad weather we can almost show
Strength is coming back , yet we have our bad days,
But we should remember last January and give praise.
This time last year I could not even cook a small meal,
Walking into the kitchen was a great effort and ordeal,
But now I can cook up quite a storm and tidy around,
Even enjoy shopping, and other chores that are around.
In the better weather I can walk a fair distance and see
The beauty of the countryside and truly blest ever be,
But not in the winter for the cold takes my breath away,
Brian can still manage a long walk, but not every cold day.
I look back to last January and I am so glad to be alive,
From then through the summer I didnt think Id survive,
Although we are both too slow, not like we want to be,
We are indeed grateful for the slow improvement we see.
