More poems about Spring.

        I LONG TO SEE
I long to see a crocus, tulip or a daffodil
And hear the birds sing by my windowsill,
Smell the blossoms on the fresh spring air,
And wait to walk in the grass so very fair.

I long to feel the warm sunshine on my face,
See the world in spring’s beauty and grace,
See our many lilac trees turn purple and white,
And the eastern ridge awake earlier and bright.

Winter’s reign of beauty I love so very well,
But it’s warmer days were my heart does dwell,
No bitter wind to freeze my cold pallid cheek,
It’s a winnowing wind of warmth that I seek.

I dream of days when I hear the loon call her mate,
Watch for the rambling rose grow round my gate,
See the ice recede from each frozen, frigid lake,
And the morning chorus is melody sweetly make.

Come friend spring on the wings of kind warm air,
You’ll be awhile in coming but you will be there
To greet me one morning and I’ll dream no more,
For I will see your smiling face at my open door.
