THE VASE
The vase glittered in the light of the candles everywhere,
Christmas was near, festivities and carols in the air,
A feeling of rejoicing and the vase wanted to take part
It sparkled with the candles as though it had a heart.

The home was ready for a Christmas party that night
Crystal glittered and many flowers gave much delight,
But that one vase had a crack in the crystal so sweet,
Although it could not be used it gave us a little treat.

Friends admired and past comments on it’s beauty bright
That old cracked vase filled us all with pure delight,
A thought came to me about talents wasted when folks say
‘I can’t do anything and I’m too old and broken anyway.

If anyone says that to me again I’ll mention the vase to them.
Never think you are useless or faults or failures condemn,
But make the most of what you have, sparkle and shine
Be just like that old cracked crystal vase of mine
