A RAINY SPORTS DAY
The wind howled and the trees dance d to a unheard tune
The whole school was miserable, full of forlorn gloom,
The sports day had been planned many months ago,
And today the weather no cooperation at all did show.
Puddles on the playing field and on the running track,
The vendors who had ventured out had now gone back,
The gym was not big enough for everything going on.
How could the day be saved, what on earth could be done?
It was not even warm or they might just have fun in the rain,
The end of June is always warm and nice, so today was a pain.
They could hold it later on but what on earth could be done today?
Not regular classes please, the students and some teachers did say.
Lets order in some food, write about how many games were won,
About the great races and achievements each one of us has done,
Or pretend its the Olympics and we are writing what we see,
Think what fun we can have pretending about all this activity.
The Principle heard this statement and gave a joy filled cry,
We will play some sports-like music and the school will buy
Treats to eat, pizza, hot dogs just let us make this all fun,
And soon the sports day with excitement at last begun.
Imagination came flowing from pen and pencil so fast,
They even painted pictures so this memory would last,
The children and staff had such happy fun that day
That this tradition was kept up and will always stay.
