        A NEW FRIEND
        SONNET NO 99
I saw a creature that was very small
Looked half dead, bedraggled and very wet,
The children wanted it for their own pet,
We carried it with care into the hall,
To see if it was worth saving at all,
The eyes were still closed, it was scared and blind,
All of us wanted to do what was kind,
It seemed to us that it had a great fall,
We picked it up and wrapped it in a shawl.
Was it a wolf cub or pup we did find?
We placed it by some warmth, it did not mind
In fact it gave a quiet little cry.
Now we have a pet wolf healthy and true
It took a lot of work to pull her through.
