CORN ON THE COB AND KIPPERS
We had just finished shopping when lunchtime came,
And choosing what we both wanted is often quite a pain,
A snack is enough for we have our main meal at five,
So with something nicely nutritious we can usually survive .

‘Kippers or corn on the cob’ I asked, and to my surprise
My husband just said ‘yes’, I stared with wide open eyes,
Both of them together it sounded so odd for a meal to me,
Yet when we ate and enjoyed it I was full of frivolity.

I am sure people will laugh when they hear we ended
With red jelly, my tummy is making a noise, maybe offended
By the combination it had to work hard to try and digest,
But it was worth a little discomfort, go on put it to the test.

I dare not tell you I’m on a salt-free diet, also had jelly beans!
But just once in the while food temptation comes like fiends,
To pull you away from things not at all on a diet short list,
Once in awhile from all sense and reason food-wise desist.
