        A PAIR OF CARDINALS
Looking through the window to our now leafless tree,
We saw a pair of cardinals perched there so prettily,
Heads tilting sideways as only birds seem to do,
It was though were telling us the seed was all through.

The colours glowed quite bright on a cool dull day,
A spark of the richness of nature to come our way,
In summer with all lovely shades they just blend in.
But on those bare branches they seemed to glow within.

But when the snow is falling fast, pure white everywhere
The bright coloured cardinals show beauty beyond compare,
No wonder the scene is often chosen for a Christmas card,
To find a natural picture more festive would be rather hard.

Many times in winter a live Christmas card comes to view,
Each card is a little different but in winter reminding us anew
Of the birth of the Christ child, the meaning of Christmas day,
If you have no cardinal in the yard, come to us, awhile stay.
