        WANTING TO KNIT
It is ages since I sat down to knit, now I have the desire,
Maybe because I am older and more rest I do require,
Years ago I used to knit all kinds of wonderful things,
From big chunky sweaters to pretty place mat rings.

Now an afghan I want to make, the patten is not hard,
No long forty row patten when you need a counting card,
But my many knitting needles are buried away somewhere,
And I bet when I find then I wouldn’t be able to make a pair.

Yellow and white I would like to use, yet any colour will do,
But I am so busy doing other things, will I see it through?
Or will it stay half finished in my old tattered knitting box,
Just like one almost done, on four needles, a pair of socks?

I used to knit lots of mice all fat, cute and rather cuddly,
Whip them up in no time, although quite big they used to be,
But crocheting is quicker, easy to find is you loose you place,
And quickly you can have it finished, a smile on your face.

So if I cannot find my knitting needles, I will work out a way
Of having an afghan completed for myself one happy day,
But by then there will be a shower for a baby or a bride,
And it is given away and their pleasure they cannot hide.

But I still won’t have my afghan no matter what the shade,
It isn’t as though I don’t have some, but not one I have made,
Each family member has one that’s tucked away somewhere,
So I’ll just make one for the coming baby with loving care.
