SPRING SIGNS
A few weeks ago I saw the very first robin
A sign that spring will soon be coming in,
The tall sugar maple trees around everywhere
Are oozing, sap and being tapped with care.
I have seen red winged blackbirds in our tree
And the morning chorus is beginning to be,
The juncos have left for more northern places,
Snow birds return with their well tanned faces.
This morning, to my wondrous, happy delight,
I beheld such a pleasing and unexpected sight,
Sticky buds showing on the trees all around
And some bulb shoots pushing through the ground.
Spring is on her way, so away goes winter clothing,
Things after many months you look at with loathing,
It will be good to put nice sandles again on my feet
To go out without a coat would be really quite neat.
Most of the snow has vanished, little bits here and there,
A feeling on contentment blows on the much warmer air,
Mother squirrels look rather fat, young ones on the way,
That surely means that sweet spring will be here one day.
Rain is forecast instead of snow storms and cold sleet,
No longer will the cold wind blow, no chills to greet
As we venture out of doors, warmer the sun will glow,
And very shortly many a spring flower will show.
Come on spring, hurry and show us your pretty face,
Rid us completely of winters treacherous grace,
Come riding on warm white clouds in a sky of blue,
Come soon spring and so our rosy cheeks renew.
