SAFFRON
It should be kept in a safe, said a friend of mine,
And not ordinary folks on it should ever dine,
Yet today I had a recipe that called for saffron,
A dish of chicken breast and wild rice to put it on.

I have a minute bag that holds this precious thing,
Just a pinch to mix with butter and fresh orange,
Enough to make a drizzle to spread over the tasty meal,
I hardly dare to use it at all, at least that’s how I feel.

But why buy it just to sit safely in it’s little spice bag,
But that quarter of a teaspoon made my heart sag,
And yet it made a difference the meal looked a treat
It tasted good and many praises the meal did meet.

I hope it keeps a long time, not loose it’s sweet savour,
It’s colour never fades as well as keep it’s flavour ,
For it is quite expensive and should be used with care,
But to do without it in a meal would be quite unfair.
