SURPRISE VISITORS
A late hour is striking on the old clock in the hall,
Still no one came this night, not one person at all,
Did they forget? Just too busy? Or not even care,
No one came, He must not have heard my prayer.
The decorations are pretty, the lights very bright,
The table laden with food is a wonderful sight,
Everywhere was ready yet no one at all came,
Maybe I should be used to the loneliness and pain.
I cleared away the food, turned off the lights
Then sat and watched the flames in the fire bright,
I thought of days gone by, laughter everywhere
Why, oh, why, did no one longer seem to care.
Maybe I have the day wrong, that would be fine,
It could be tomorrow I asked folks over to dine,
The old heart brightened for a moment, then a sigh,
Can from an empty heart she wondered do folks die?
She peeked through the window at the white snow,
She would leave the outside light on the way to show
To anyone who was roaming on that cold frosty night,
She may save someone from harm with the light so bright.
Shes having a lonely Christmas, no friend bothered to drop by,
Her family too far to come so Christmas day she began to cry,
Then there was a scuffle and voices, her family, what a surprise
Then it was tears of joy that filled those sparkling bright eyes.
