FOLLOWING THE RIVER
When you visit Niagara Falls, come in from Fort Erie,
For it will gladden the heart, comfort the worn and cheer the weary,
First, though fast the Niagara river runs smooth and graceful ever on
To, it knows not where, determined that the destination will be won,
Then the river performs for you, hurrying down, bounding, dancing,
Skipping, running, scurrying, laughing, flurrying, ever rushing, hastening
To the falls, unaware of what lies for it just a little way ahead,
Like following Hamlin’s pied piper, being compelled and magically led
By some spell, small white waves gather until most of the river is white
And when they all glitter in the sun it is such a wonderful, pretty sight.
On the banks of the river stand great trees, stately, tall and strong,
With hundreds of different birds around singing many a sweet song.
Lovely peaceful looking homes grace the scene with gardens fair,
Come here in the spring, summer, fall and in winter and just stare.
Drive slowly, or stop to look at that great beauty spread all around,
And as you go, wait, listening until you can hear a loud roaring sound.
Then see the spray rise heavenward from the massive waterfall,
Then park and walk slowly and gaze and marvel, a sight to enthrall.
