More poems about Beauty Spots

WHEN I AWOKE
When I awoke this morning the sky seemed grey,
Yet it was warm so the sun may come our way,
A pleasant gentle breeze blew, coming off the lake,
So a little stroll around I thought I would take.

Early August and a new morning just begun,
With a few household tasks still to be done,
Then off for a slow walk to see the beauty around
And it was surprising the things that I found.

On a smooth stone sat a multi-coloured snail,
As it had traveled there it had left a silver trail,
It glistened quite bright on that greyish day,
Sending me smiling on the rest of my way.

Late blooming for-get-me-nots, blue eyes bright,
Growing wild by a hedge, filled me with delight,
A pair of squirrels playing tag having so much fun,
Oh, to be that lively this early just as day had come.

I walked to the lake where traffic noise was dim,
And saw the gulls glide on the breezes every whim,
The waves called at my feet, ‘come dance with me’
As the mists arose from the water setting the lake free.

A shaft of sunlight, told the sun would win through
To refresh the grass and flowers now drenched in dew,
The birds sang their early morning cheerful melody,
It was as though all nature said ‘good morning’ to me.
