SOMETHING NICE TO EAT
Good food is placed before you, but not a fancy treat,
Thats the time we say, I fancy something nice to eat,
Nothing like this good dinner before me, no, not at all,
But a lovely desert with real whipped cream piled tall.
Maybe butter tarts with nuts or a great big apple pie,
An English trifle or custard comes to your minds eye.
Strawberry crumble, raspberry fool or a chocolate cake,
Or anything thats nice mother is willing to make.
The something nice is usually as fattening as can be,
Not like a healthy salad that is good for you and me,
I could eat a slice of pound cake with cherries inside,
Maybe spread with butter, my drools I cannot hide.
Lemon meringue with fluffy pastry homemade of course,
Why should I have to eat dinner, food I dont want to force
Into my unwilling system, just all the nice things will do,
Yes, please feed me with nice things all my life through.
Now this is not written about a growing child of mine,
But a full grown husband who on these wants to dine,
A very sweet tooth seems to have won the day of late,
And I find it quite hard to put good food on his plate.
