IN THE GARDEN
Yesterday in the garden a lovely sight we did see,
A family of cardinals as pretty as they could be,
Mother feeds the chicks while dad kept guard,
This all happened as we watched in our back yard.

Then onto the screen doors two goldfinches came,
Clinging on and chattering, like playing a new game,
We managed to get quite close, they didn’t fly away,
All this happened in our small back yard yesterday.

At evening when some dark clouds came rolling in,
From the back part of the yard we heard a great din,
Two young racoons were playing, having lots of fun,
I wondered what else we’d see before the day was done.

I stepped out into the garden before going off to bed,
Grateful that through nature this day we’d been fed,
Then the final part of the feast came, an owl in a tree,
Silhouetted against the darkening sky, silent as could be.

Sunday, after church, we were blest by nature well,
Gratitude filled my heart for the place where I do dwell,
Sweet nature in the city in a garden that is quite small,
Many wonderful gifts given by the Creator of all.
