BOX OF DECORATIONS
A month before Christmas the family fell apart,
Who would take three children with a heart
Big enough to love those unhappy children well?
They could not be parted, that was plain to tell.
Each took their favorite toy and a book or two,
A few clothes that were not all worn through,
And a small box of decorations for their tree.
Three un-cared for children, sad as can be.
A home for three children, two girls and a boy,
They sat huddled together each holding a toy,
Please do not part us each pair of eyes pled,
Though no words were spoken, nothing ever said.
An elderly couple came, a warm smile on each face
You can stay together with us, in our big place,
Theres a cat and a dog that you can call your own,
Come and see if you would like to share our home.
Can we put our decorations on a Christmas tree?
And maybe at night sit by the fire on your knee?
Please no one hit us and give us some food to eat,
And every now and then have a very small treat?
Tears came to all the eyes of all in that little room,
Yes, decorations can go on a tree and very soon,
Well sit close so all three can sit together on our knee
No one will harm you and wait until the food you see.
All together on the back seat of a great big car,
Tucked under a blanket for the journey was quite far,
They turned into the driveway each pair of eyes bright,
For in their tender years theyd never seen such a sight.
The boy being piggy-backed, the others holding on tight,
They came into the home, so large, warm, cozy and bright,
They thought they were in a movie that would soon end,
Or in a world of make of make-believe and lets pretend.
Bathed, fed, sat on knees before being tucked up in bed,
Fear going quickly from each young childs sweet head,
Love, comfort and security and their simple hearts desire,
Every night being lovingly held in front of a roaring fire.
A great big real Christmas tree of their very own
Where the box of decorations was loving being shown,
Plus many strings of lights putting things everywhere
No one yelled at the cat and dog joining in there.
Sometimes a sad beginning when all is hurt and pain
Can turn out for the best a new family with an aim,
And an empty house now ringing at Christmas with the sound
Of childrens laughter and where sweet peace and love is found.
