To Whom It May Concern:

Thank you for taking the time to look over my resume. My name is Wade Scharlau, and I have recently earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Elmhurst College. I am also finishing the requirements of the secondary education professional program there, and plan to have endorsements in chemistry, physics, earth science, and general science. It is my desire to teach science at the high school level after I complete my student teaching experience.

In my limited experience, I find that when I teach someone how to do something, it makes me feel fulfilled. I feel that if I could inspire someone to reach for his/her potential, the way I was inspired by my teachers, it would be the ultimate reward. I think one of the most important abilities a teacher must possess is the ability to influence his/her students' desires to learn. In the past, I have been able to quickly earn students' respect, trust, and admiration, which I believe is the first step in fostering a desire to learn. It is also important to be able to present material to students so they can all understand and learn it.

Being able to learn and think quickly, as well as being creative, enables me to manipulate subject material so everyone understands it. Having great patience will also help me when getting an idea across requires continuous effort. In the ever-changing field of education, my ability to work well, both alone and in groups, is a necessary attribute. I also believe one of the most important characteristics that any person in any profession should posses is the desire to do his/her job because he/she wants to and because he/she enjoys it. I cannot think of another career that has as much potential to be enjoyable and rewarding as education.

After my successful completion of the student teaching experience, I will be diligently seeking a teaching position with a school that I believe will not only provide me with the opportunity to enjoy a successful career, but also will benefit from my efforts as a teacher.  I would appreciate being considered for a teaching position in your school. I have included a copy of my resume for your reference. I look forward to meeting with you for an interview.

Thank You,
Wade Scharlau
