CONSTRUCTION

Well, your planning is done and it is finally time to start the construction of your final project. Depending on the design you have chosen and the amount of detail, this is the longest stage of the process.  I began the actual construction phase of my quilt in March and completed it in the beginning of August. I have to say that if I would have been working at the time, there is no way I would have been able to complete a project of this magnitude in that short amount of time. The process I followed to complete this project is listed below. The photograph on this page shows my older two girls, with me and my sister-in-law holding the finished quilt.

  1. Print photographs onto fabric

  2. Heat treat the fabric

  3. Rinse fabric in Bubble Jet Set and allow to dry

  4. Cut blocks and triangles

  5. Piece together triangle blocks

  6. Hand embroider outline blocks with wording and hearts

  7. Piece together rows

  8. Sew rows together and machine quilt in between

  9. Machine quilt columns

  10. Add backing along with a custom label
