As I traveled down the road of life
I was vexed within my soul
For I came upon an overpass
And I could not afford the toll
The keeper said I'd done some things
That could not be condoned
And I could not cross the narrow bridge
'Til all had been atoned
So I said I'd find a better way
For this canyon must be crossed
The keeper said "Beware Young Man"
For it is easy to get lost
I searched the banks of discontent
But the tolls were very steep
And I couldn't swim sin river
For the waters were to deep
The only way to make safe passage
Was to build from ridge to ridge
But I'd need to find a master builder
To build me such a bridge
In my quest to find this master builder
I met a man called Law
He'd conquered many a forest
With the swiftnest of his saw
He said that he could help me
With this bridge that I must build
And I listened on intently
For this man was very skilled
Then he showed me a list of materials
His requests and needs
But my funds were insufficient
For his works and alms and deeds
I hung my head bewildered
Then I felt a warm hand on my back
He said I see that you are weary child
So might I hold your sack
My name, he said, is Jesus
And I've built a thing or two
If you'll put your faith and trust in me
I'll build this bridge for you
I said what materials are required
For you to build this bridge for me
He said your faith and trust
Three rusty nails and one old dogwood tree
I followed him with all my heart
And his countenance was pure
And though this seemed impossible
Somehow I felt secure
He laid a strong foundation
With mercy, love and grace
And I watched that master builder
Finally put each piece in place
He built this bridge on Calvary
And where most builders would use mud
He bound it with eternal love
And sealed it with his blood
