General Information
This Journal is for annnouncing the latest information on Scandinavian History from 500 to
1200 c.e. Topics include news of the Viking Period, new books and articles, new webpages, the occaisional
editorial and articles.
Quarterly?
'Hugin & Munin - Thought & Memory' will only be available online and expects to list editions
quarterly. Listing dates are expected to be by the first of January, April, July, & October.
I may be doing odd things with the journal while it is being worked on. Visit often, you'll figure it out.
Why don't the newsletter links work?
Birgit has listed source links whether they work or not - this is where the info was originally found. Some news-links require a subscription or
other information in order to allow access to their pages. Sometimes they remove dated pages. Somedays your humble writer just can't type or spell correctly....
Generally the active links should work, the typed addresses/URLs may require a subscription, are no longer available, or require various contortions to access.
Editor?
The chief bottle washer, writer, and editor is Birgit. Writing from others will include "by [person's name]" with their permission.
I've been interested in Migration and Viking Age History for over ten years. I tend to rely on the
museum science and archaeological publications, but am also interested in all aspects of life in Scandinavia from the Iron Age on. Since I'm looking up all this information anyway I thought I'd put it all in one place. Input
from readers is welcome, especially if I've missed something new. Is this a bit confusing? Hey, that's par for the course of life: as you can see this is an adventure and I can't make up my mind on first and third person on
this page! "Hugin & Munin - Thought and Memory" will only be in English. Birgit will be listing references
in some Germanic languages. I can be contacted at Birgit@cmpmail.com
Why the Title "Hugin & Munin - Thought and Memory" ?
Well, I wanted something a little different....do you know how many general history books there are out there called Viking(s) or The Viking(s)?
It's also getting a little difficult for my browser to mark all these 'viking' links as favorites. Hugin and Munin were the two Ravens that embodied the Norse god Odin's
intellect and memories. They are symbolic of 'flights in search of wisdom', amongst other aspects. I'm in search of facts, too, and through this I hope to share what I've found.
