What I do know is that hundreds of girls spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on new, trendy outfits in order to change clothes several time a day. Logically, of course, because people who have a lot of money to spend on clothes and who never wear the same outfit are always kinder and more compassionate than everyone else. Nicely manicured nails must be a sure trademark of upstanding character and a sense of community, because they seem to be a necessity. Impeccable hair and makeup have always shown superior intelligence. A bubbly facade shows the understanding and care of a true friend underneath. Hasn’t it always? After ensuring that each girl is properly preened, primped, and skilled at pretending, the members of the sorority choose new members, sure to become their new best friends. Omigosh, like, yay!
Perhaps jealousy is my problem. I know that I don’t have what it takes to keep up a pretty pretense for an entire week, and that fact really does bother me. I suppose it all depends on how you look at it.
In the words of someone very very very wise and cool:
"How rush."
