I loved you   and

That's the way
We're meant to be

I made that clear to everyone
Until miss Jezebel had come
I rudely sent your picture back
You felt your heart begin to crack

I spite you   and
You miss me
"Will this forever
Have to be?"

My photograph you'd never lose
You still dreamed of us as two
I took her out and held her hand
You acted like it never happened

I loved her   and
You loved me
I looked you over
Forgot to see

Across a street we held our hands
Her earring broke, it bounces, lands
In sticky tar and stuck so hard
I guess I didn't see the car

I left you   but
You still loved
As if a friend
From Heaven above

I heard the scream of horn and wheels
They say that time will all wounds heal
You jumped the curb, pushed me away
You could not move, were forced to stay

I loved her   and
You loved me
Was I so dense
I could not see?

I sat and watched the puddle of blood
On the asphalt road and on the hood
They'd come and taken you away
She had gone, and I had stayed

I loved you   but
You know not
For my life
Yours is gone

Alone with you in a hospital room
I had come, must go so soon
WIth teary eyes I leaned toward you
And whispered of my love, renewed

Your eyelids fluttered, your crushed arms shook
And you, your final breath had took
I left for home, walked past the scene
How could I have been so mean?

You were gone
Your life too short
Or mine too long

I saw a photo on the ground
It was no one's, no one's around
I picked it up, was surprised to see
It was a picture of you and me

When we still lived
