A CHAIR FOR MOTHER

A Holiday Literature Lesson

Objective:
Students will be able to listen to the story "A Chair For Mother" retell it, and sing a Mother's Day song.

Materials: Book: A Chair for Mother     By Vera Williams
Record:  “Thanks For Being My Mom” by Hap Palmer

Anticipation Guide:
1. Students will make a list of things they could get their mothers for Mother's Day.
2. Listen to and sing the song,"Thanks For Being My Mom"

Procedure:
Read the story to the children.

Summary
Ask the students the following questions:
1. What type work did the girl's mother do?
2. Where did the girl go after school?
3. Describe the tasks the girl did to help her mother?
4. What are tips?
5. Tell why the little girl decided to get her mother a new chair.
6. Draw a picture of something you would like to get your mom for
Mother's Day.

Evaluation:
Each student should be able to answer the questions above and sing the song
"Thanks For Being My Mom."

Follow Up:
Students can make Mother's Day Flowers. BACK
