ELIMARE

We drove through Ponda to get to this temple.  I still have nightmares about the trucks, the dead bodies and the road on the edge of the cliffs that our bus careened along.

To fully understand driving etiquette in Goa place yourself in a rattly old bus.  Then place yourself on a 10 foot wide track.  Call this a main road with three lanes.  The middle ‘lane’ is used for passing—in either direction.

Now along with the usual trucks, buses, cars, tuk-tuks and motorcycles throw a few cows, cyclists, dogs pedestrians and goats.

Get your speed to the max that your vehicle can handle and don’t stop.  Don’t break, don’t indicate and for god’s sake DON’T SLOW DOWN.

This temple is from the 12th century and is the only surviving structure from the Kadamba dynasty.  It is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
