What's happening to society?
What is happening in our society that we care so little for each other that we treat our friends worse than we used to treat those that we used to despise? Why is it that people are willing to be so narcistic that they will "rag" on their friends untill they get upset and take action to let one know how upset they are, just to have a knife pulled on one's self? And how can the person wielding the knife just brush it off like it was a joke when they have just threatened someone they cared about's life?
Has our society sunk so low and become so nonchalant about violence that we are willing to accept these things without a second thought? I'm sorry to say that I think that it has. But who's fault is it?
Are TV and movies to blame? Have they made us so insensitive towards violence that we no longer take actions against it? Or is it that there's just so much violence that we feel powerless to stop it and decide that if we can't beat them we might as well join them? No, it's not any of those.
The problem is that the last generation of parents, as well as the current one, is failing to teach their children that violence is wrong. The parents of today couldn't teach their children this if they wanted to. Why? Because they have no control over their children.
They don't have control for one main reason, they are unwilling to punish their children. They think it's being "mean" and are told that it is "child abuse". Parents are scared to punish their children because of others who have been convicted of child abuse for spanking their children.
These parents didn't beat their children untill there were bruises. They didn't spank them for no reason at all. They gave gave them a swift slap on the ass because the child wouldn't listen the first time
Don't stop me there, it's gotten worse. Now we won't give our kids "time out" either. And what happened to grounding. It used to be that a parent would put their child in "time out" for 20 minutes or ground them for a week and that child wouldn't see the light of day until that time had passed. Do we now considder this to be child abuse too or is it just considered mean?
No, I don't think it's either of those reasons. The reason for this one is worse. We're too lazy to enforce these punishments. So what do we do? We let them talk us out of them or conveniantly forget that we punished them.
All, of this leads to a lack of control and lack of respect for the parents so that when the child does something really bad the punishment means nothing to them. If they break the law we try our damnest to keep them out of jail when we should just let them sit there and MAYBE learn their lesson.
But no, in todays society we care about nothing but ourselves and not hurting one another's feelings that we let it lead to the downfall of our society.
